Festival accessibility

Within the festival, which itself follows inclusive design approaches, we try to make each programme accessible to as wide a range of visitors as possible. Almost all the spaces are wheelchair accessible and the main parts of the programme, such as the Best in Design Ceremony, are interpreted into English.

We also take accessibility into account in our communication, so you will find accessibility information for all parts of the programme when it is published. We still have a long way to go towards a fully accessible festival, but because we know that the FUTURE IS ACCESSIBLE and because we are aware that everyone* has different needs and preferences, we are open to any comments, suggestions and proposals.

In case you decide to visit our festival and taking your needs into consideration might seem like a hindrance, don’t be afraid to contact us, together we will come up with a solution for you. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Accessibility of locations

Building 44, Areál Svit (Vavrečkova 7029, Zlín)

  • Directions: The nearest bus stops are J. A. Bati and Poliklinika.
  • Accessibility: The 4th floor, where all programming takes place, is accessible by stairs. In case of need (handicap, baby stroller, etc.) it is possible to use the elevator. Due to the specific features of the building, we recommend contacting the Accessibility Manager in advance (marketa.novakova@zlindesignweek.com,+420 733 166 711). There are no accessible toilets in the building.
  • Language and translation: Sign language and English interpretation is not provided for events taking place in Building 44. However, a few of the Design CANTEEN discussions will be held in English.

Gallery G18 (Štefánikova 5670)

  • Directions: The gallery is located in the building of the Faculty of Humanitarian Studies. After entering, head to the right. In front of the building there is the nearest public transport stop Školní.
  • Accessibility: Access to the gallery is barrier-free. The building also has wheelchair accessible toilets.
  • Language and translation: The exhibition Future is Best of 24′! offers both Czech and English annotation. The opening of the exhibition will be held in English.

BATA INSTITUTE, Platform 14|15 (Vavrečkova 7040)

  • Directions: The platform is located near the Zlín train and bus station. Limited parking spaces are available on the side of Building 15  or there is an option of paid parking in the BATA INSTITUTE garages. The nearest public transport bus stop is Náměstí práce.
  • Accessibility: Access to the platform is wheelchair accessible. Toilets are available in the café in Building 15.
  • Language and translation: Ongoing Fashion Show available in both Czech and English. Sign language interpretation is not provided.

Zlín Castle & Bar Zámek (Soudní 1)

  • Directions: There are no parking spaces available in the close surroundings of the Zlín Castle. Parking next to the castle must be arranged in advance (write to: marketa.novakova@zlindesignweek.com). The nearest public transport stop is U Zámku.
  • Accessibility: The exhibition Future is! is located on the 1st floor of the castle, where there is no wheelchair access. Opening ceremony and closing evening will take place in the courtyard of the castle and in the Bar Chateau located in the basement. The courtyard is barrier-free. The bar offers wheelchair accessibility via a wheelchair accessible stair platform. However, mobility around the bar is not guaranteed. There are no accessible toilets provided on site.
  • Language and translation: Ongoing events are available primarily in Czech. Sign language translation is not provided.

Café 204, (tř. Tomáše Bati 204)

  • Directions: There are no parking spaces in the immediate surroundings of the café. The nearest public transport stops are Školní and Náměstí Míru.
  • Accessibility: Access to Café 204 is wheelchair accessible.

Building of the University Rector’s Office U13, (5555 T. G. Masaryk Square)

  • Directions: The Future is ZDW! exhibition will take place on the first floor of the Rector’s Office. The nearest public transport stop is Školní. There are no parking spaces available directly near the U13 building. The nearest locations with parking are T. G. Masaryk Square.
  • Accessibility: Access to the building is wheelchair accessible. The first floor of the exhibition can be reached by lift. To get to the elevator, turn left in front of the staircase.   • Language and translation: The exhibition Future is ZDW’! offers both Czech and English annotation. The opening of the exhibition will be held in Czech.

Tomáš Bata Memorial, (T. G. Masaryk Square 2570)

  • Directions: The nearest bus stops are Školní and nám. Práce. There is a limited number of parking spaces near the building.
  • Accessibility: For the Best in Design Ceremony, there is a dedicated space on the ground floor, where it is possible to move around with wheelchairs. Barrier-free access is available from the back of the building. You can also visit the Memorial for a tour, but movement throughout the building is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Language and translation: For the Best in Design Ceremony, simultaneous interpretation into English is provided. Sign language interpretation is not provided.

Faculty of Multimedia Communications – building U4 (Univerzitní 2431, Zlín)

  • Directions: The nearest public transport stops are Školní and nám. Práce. There is a limited number of parking spaces in front of the building.
  • Accessibility: The planned workshop takes place at the right side of the building, in Arts Management studio. After entering, take the stairs to the right and then straight ahead, then follow the signs. Men’s restrooms are upstairs, women’s restrooms are available on the ground floor.
  • Language and translation: The workshop is held in Czech.

Garage platform 14/15 – BATA INSTITUTE (Vavrečkova 7040, Zlín)

  • Directions: Parking in the garage will not be allowed during the event. Limited parking spaces are available on the side of Building 15. The nearest MDH bus stop is Náměstí Práce.
  • Accessibility: The entrance is located at the backside of the platform (when approaching from the bus station or the Building of the Faculty of Technology) and is wheelchair accessible. Please note the lowered ceilings (2 meters) and the reduced visibility on the place.
  • Language and translation: Ongoing events are available in both Czech and English. There is no sign language interpretation provided.

Over the past two years we have covered topics such as universal design and inclusion. One of the results is the Design for All project.
