You can expect exhibitions, fashion shows, numerous discussions, workshops, creative workshops, concerts, and parties. We look forward to seeing you from 8 to 14 May in Zlín. Don’t forget to stop by our info point on náměstí Míru (open every day from 10:00 to 18:00) or check out one of our KOMA modules in Komenský Park and by the Shopping Centre. offlineA 50-minute guided tour of the Tomas Bata Memorial, during which the guide will introduce you to the history and architecture of the building. You will also learn the story of the creation and transformation of this radical building in Zlín. The interpretation is enriched with a story about the life journey of Tomas Bata, from the beginnings of his business to his tragic end. In addition, we will introduce you to the personality of František Lýdia Gahura – the author of the Memorial, who created a work that will forever commemorate the brilliant entrepreneur and is also a symbol of Zlín itself.

Guided tour of Zlín: Factory in the Gardens
offlineThe Tourism Department of the City of Zlín, in cooperation with the authors of the Zlín Architectural Manual database and the aArchitektura association, has prepared a route that will take you through the former Bata factory complex, which is still one of the most authentic places testifying to the times of industrial production in Zlín. The tour also includes buildings from the post-war period and Building 44, still in use today for shoe production.

Celebration Future is ZDW!
offlineThe whole festival will kick off with an event celebrating ten years of the festival. The event is for guests only and will bring together festival managers from all years, partners, media, university representatives, and other personalities behind the festival. The smaller celebration will include the presentation of the Future is ZDW! installation, which symbolizes the different years of the festival.
Other visitors can view the installation from Thursday, May 9, to Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

offlineAs last year, the opening of the festival will include the vernissage of the main exhibition, which this year will present projects dealing with themes and approaches shaping our future. After the opening ceremony, the evening will continue with an exclusive musical program. The headliner of the evening will be the trio Himalayan Dalai Lama, representatives of instrumental electronic music.

offlineThis year’s Design na hranici conference will take place on May 9 in Building 44 at the Svit complex. This informal event offers an insight into a wide range of design industries. This year’s conference will cover the topics of digital, product, and motion design. For example, we will talk about AI or no-code. We want to provide a space for discussion and idea sharing among designers, students of design, and others interested in the creative world.

Introducing the exhibition IDENTITY: after Milano 2024
offlineIDENTITY. A key element of design methods. A reflection of self-awareness and consciousness representing nations, regions, selected communities, or individuals themselves. The IDENTITY exhibition will be presented in Elements studio in Zlín after its official presentation at Milano Design Week 2024. During the official opening, a guided tour will take place showcasing a selection of three dozen student projects in a diverse range of objects shaping the awareness of one’s own identity.

Videomapping festival Maska (partner program)
offlineThe Maska Festival is an international student video mapping festival hosted in the largest European permanent video mapping area. The festival’s history dates back to 2014 when it was first organized thanks to the HUCOT civic association, the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín, and the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. Over the years, the festival attracted a wide range of universities from both the Czech and Slovak Republics and various European countries. What will the festival program offer this year?

Creative Workshop Robota: program for schools
offlineROBOTA is a creative digital workshop supporting and developing creativity and artistic potential. The workshop aims to create a space where education, creation, and inspiration meet. ROBOTA’s programs are designed to foster the development of creativity, innovation, and artistic skills. The workshop brings inspiration and tools that take education to the next level.
The Creative Workshop Robot will open its studio for 1.5 hours for primary and secondary school students. The workshop program will be tailored to the specific class and students. Students can try out a range of new technologies and take away something they make themselves.

Fashion show: Future is spectrum!
offlineFashion Show, under the title Future is spectrum!, will present designers not only from the Czech Republic. The concept of the Jubilee Fashion Show revolves around the idea that the future is not a linear path but a dynamic spectrum of possibilities. This dynamism lies in the variety and possibilities of what can be perceived, like colors in the optical spectrum. Each point on the spectrum represents a potential reality and shows the vast and limitless nature of what lies ahead. The Fashion Show encourages us to think about the fashion industry’s future through different perspectives and, at the same time, to be aware of technological advances related to the view of society, its progress, and development.

Open creative workshop Designéři dětem
offlineDesignéři Dětem is an educational platform that seeks to connect designers with children. Workshop participants will take on the role of superheroes from the future of 2080 and will have to build a better world. However, they will have only shoeboxes and a few small items to remind them of the past glory of the shoe metropolis. There are no limits to creativity, and each box can contain a new life, new family, new house, new garden, or a whole new being.

Vernissage Future is Best of 24: Place in the Future
offlineThe Best of ’24 exhibition at the G18 gallery will present the finalists of the 15th year of the international Best in Design competition. This year’s exhibition presents the concept of Place & City in the future, a space composed of inclusive, resilient, and innovative design elements. At the exhibition’s opening, you may meet the competition jurors and creators of the individual projects exhibited in the G18 gallery. The exhibition curator, Kristýna Mlynárová, will guide you through the exhibition.

Future is yoga! with Pavla Vanduchová
offlineThe human body has changed over the decades. Many technologies have brought us relief but also hidden health problems. The lesson will focus on common ailments of this time – carpal tunnel problems, hypermobility, stiff hips, etc. We will embrace everything with playfulness and grace, experimenting with the body in the sense that there is power in simplicity. We will demonstrate basic, simple, but efficient exercises and postures that we can do daily in the sense of Future Is (in) Yoga. The class will end with sound healing with Tibetan bowls to calm tension and relax the mind.
Pavla Vanduchová has been a yoga teacher since 2007. She started in a yoga studio in Ostrava. Currently, she is a freelance teacher in Val. Meziříčí, Napajedla and since 2013 also in Satyam studio in Zlín. She is a mother of a 4,5-year-old son and takes being a yoga teacher as her mission.

Workshop participants are transported to a future where the heat is infinite and without living beings. Their task will be to design new beings and create a new civilization. Future is yoga! with Kateřina Čajánková
offlineThe yoga class will follow the spirit of openness and freedom of movement of your own body. With attention to your feelings and mindfulness of your limits. How to look deeply into ourselves and how to listen to the answers that give us, through the practice of yoga, clear information about which values of ourselves to allow ourselves to open. The pace of the yoga practice will be rocking on the waves of smooth breath, gentle and slow, suitable for practitioners of all levels of the yoga world.
Kateřina Čajánková is the creator and founder of Satyam Yoga Studio (2012), a yoga teacher, mother of 3 children. She has 20 years of experience in leading and teaching traditional yoga, therapeutic movement concepts, and healthy and conscious movement. An advocate of her philosophy of EXPLAIN, UNDERSTAND, REALIZE AND IMPLEMENT, all IN TRUTH.

Fashion performance X Our Shift
offlineActivist brand Our Shift will showcase their art in a fashion show and performance using recycled banners and excess clothing from the Škoda company. The aim is to transform these materials into unique and sustainable fashion pieces, promoting the idea of recycling and creative use of unused goods.
After the Fashion Performance, the evening will continue in Leaves lounge (Bartošova 45/17, Zlin), where the iconic ZDW drinks will be available!

offlineThe festival’s main exhibition presents current projects addressing questions of the future and reflecting current needs about the positive development of our environment and life.This exhibition will be accompanied by educational programs for students in the 8th and 9th grades of primary schools and all grades of secondary schools who are not neglectful of our future. The educative program will be led by an experienced lecturer, Robert Spurný, who is devoted to creating and leading lecturing programs in an area of design and art at the Moravian Gallery in Brno. Workshop: speculative design as a tool for the debate on young people’s mental health
offlineThe speculative design workshop will focus on bringing together design theory and practice with application to relevant and current mental health challenges for young people, particularly those with ADHD or anxiety. Participants will learn about speculative design principles and how they can be used in the public sector, emphasizing creative thinking and innovative approaches to problem-solving. The practical part of the workshop will involve working with speculative technologies and tools in dystopian scenarios that reflect the current needs of young people. The aim is to explore possible futures alongside finding ways to apply these speculations to current challenges to promote better understanding and solutions to mental health problems. This workshop will be led by Roman Sellner Novotný and Veronika Sellner.

Workshop: Crafting Tomorrow- Discovering DIY materials and their properties
offlineThe workshop focuses on creating DIY (do-it-yourself) materials and exploring their possibilities. These materials offer the opportunity to rethink existing manufacturing processes and the properties of industrialized materials to create a personal and personal experience of making. During the workshop, participants will learn how to extract pigments from different rocks and minerals and then use these pigments to experiment with printing, dyeing textiles, as well as creating DIY bioplastics. The emphasis will be on the process of making and interacting with the material itself to discover and understand its properties, which are variable and often unpredictable. The workshop is, therefore, not only about the practical part but also about speculating together about the future of materials.
Petra Vicianová is a graduate of Design School Kolding in Denmark, where she studied the Design for Planet master’s program, focusing on approaches to sustainability in design. Nowadays, as part of her Ph.D. studies at the Textile Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, she is exploring the possibility of natural dyeing, which allows her to further understand the process of creating with unknown and future-changing materials. Petra is also actively trying to open discussions on rethinking the social approach to textile materials and their properties.
