The whole week from May 6 to 13 will be busy in Zlín, you have only one weekend and don’t know what to choose from the programme? We prepared this little guide for you!
FRIDAY MAY 6th
AFTERNOON
The opening of the exhibition 100 Years of Zlín Design will best prepare you for what awaits in the coming days. Thanks to the project which maps the phenomenon of Zlín’s industrial design, you will best absorb the local atmosphere and events. The first part of the exhibition will be presented from 16:00 at the 14/15 Bata Institute, the second from 17:00 at the 61st building, both will include guided tours of the exhibitions.
EVENING
The Zlín vibe is caught, but Friday night is just beginning? This year you’re lucky enough to have Majáles on the same date as ZDW. We’re hereby extending you an invitation from the UTB Student Union – but don’t party that much as there’s more than enough to do on Saturday!
SATURDAY MAY 7TH
MORNING
The Design Canteen at Zlín Castle will open at 10:00. We have coffee ready, a piano tuned up and apparently a doughnut will arrive. The one from Brno. Once you’ve had a look around and cast your nets, we’ll dive into a discussion about how designers manage to establish media collaborations – Bára Alex Kašparová, founder of the monthly magazine Artikl, will share her advice and tips with you.
AFTERNOON
During the workshop with Pábení (13:00 again at Zlín Castle) we will focus on the influence of ethics on the design of services and products. Everyone is welcome to join in – designers and enthusiasts alike will be able to explore what it means to consider the potentially harmful consequences of decisions through two specialised card games, The Thing The Future and Moral Agent. After the workshop, we will be treated to the opening of the Best in Design Best of ’22 exhibition at the G18 Gallery from 15:00 and a discussion with the finalists and judges of this international competition.
EVENING
We are slowly approaching one of the most important points of the entire Zlin Design Week programme, the Opening itself. 17:30 at the Zlín City Theatre, Police Symphony Orchestra (a young orchestra that has already managed to sell out Prague’s Lucerna), a dance performance by All Style Unit, the announcement of the Best in Design international competition and performance by singer Barbora Mochowa. You can look forward to it all! And the whole evening can’t be finished except with a proper afterparty in Sklep 33 from 22:00.
SUNDAY MAY 8TH
MORNING
Sunday will kick off with a workshop by the artistic director of the Fashionclash, Branco Popovic, at 10:00 a.m. at Zlín Castle, during which we will focus on the topic of supporting young designers and interdisciplinarity in fashion.
AFTERNOON
Sunday afternoon will again be reserved for the Design CANTEEN, this time at the 61st building in connection with the 100 Years of Zlín Design project. From 14:00, the topic of design in healthcare will be discussed. The opening of the exhibition They Wrote It on the Internet… will present a selection of semester works by students of the Digital Design Studio at the FMK UTB at 17:00 at the Zlín Castle. In cooperation with the Zvol si info organisation, the students have designed interactive educational tools for media education classes, which will help us easily understand how to resist the untruths that are increasingly circulating on the internet.
EVENING
At the end of the design-filled weekend, a fashion show accompanied by singer Giudi will take place at Zlín Castle from 18:00. During the evening, you will see nine designer collections by Lukáš Krnáč or Michaela Hriňová (Aimoffcl). From 19:00, DJs Cathrine and Kristýna Coufalová (KTVA) will get your blood pumping during a small afterparty.
